What is a Day Pillar?
Every day carries a pillar — one Heavenly Stem paired with one Earthly Branch. The pairs cycle through sixty combinations before repeating, which is why the system is called the Sexagenary Cycle.
The pillar itself is fixed by the calendar. Anyone calculating today gets the same answer. What changes from person to person is how that day acts on you — and that is decided by your Day Master.
Why the same day differs for each person
BaZi does not sort days into lucky and unlucky. It looks at the relationship between your Day Master and today's stem. That relationship is fixed by two things only: the element cycle, and whether the polarity matches.
If today's stem is Earth, then to a Wood Day Master it becomes "the thing I control" — the Wealth domain. To a Fire Day Master the same Earth becomes "the thing I generate" — the domain of output and talent. One day, two entirely different readings, both correct.
How to read your row
Find your Day Master in the table above and you will see which of the ten relationships today falls into, and which area of life it touches — money, work, support, speech, and so on.
One caution: a "pressure" day is not a bad day. In this system the force that restrains you is read as the one that builds you. Equally, a "money" day does not promise income — it means matters around money are in motion.
What day pillars were traditionally used for
Historically the day pillar was used for choosing dates — signing an agreement, starting a journey, opening a business. Rather than predicting whether today will go well, it is closer to the original use to ask: which day should I bring this forward on?
