What is BaZi?
BaZi (八字) literally means "eight characters." Your birth year, month, day, and hour each become a pillar, and every pillar carries two characters — one Heavenly Stem above, one Earthly Branch below. Four pillars, eight characters. In English it is usually called the Four Pillars of Destiny.
These eight characters are not invented by a reader. They are calculated from a traditional lunisolar calendar. Two people born at the same moment get the same eight characters, anywhere, any time they check. Interpretation varies; the characters themselves are arithmetic.
What each pillar covers

The Heavenly Stem of the Day pillar has a special name: the Day Master. It represents you. Every other character in the chart is read through its relationship to this one.
The Five Elements
Each of the eight characters belongs to one of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. They relate through two cycles.
The generating cycle runs Wood → Fire → Earth → Metal → Water → Wood. Wood feeds fire; fire leaves ash that becomes earth; earth yields metal; metal gathers water; water grows wood.
The controlling cycle runs Wood → Earth → Water → Fire → Metal → Wood. Roots break soil; soil dams water; water quenches fire; fire melts metal; metal cuts wood.
Your element balance shows which of the five you carry most and least. More is not better and less is not worse. A heavy concentration amplifies both the strengths and the faults of that element; an even spread is steady but less distinct.
The Ten Gods
The Ten Gods (十星) are the ten possible relationships between your Day Master and any other character. They are fixed by two things only: the element cycle, and whether the polarity (yin/yang) matches.

The Wealth gods govern money, the Officer gods govern work and standing, and the Resource gods govern study and support.
Luck Pillars — the 10-year cycles
If the eight characters are the map you were born with, the Luck Pillars are the weather you travel through. Every ten years a new pillar takes over, and the same chart lives out very differently depending on which cycle it is passing through.
The starting age and the direction of travel are set by the polarity of your birth year together with your gender — which is why two people born on the same day can run their luck cycles in opposite directions.
What this calculator does and does not do
It does the calendar mathematics: four pillars, Day Master, element balance, Ten Gods, luck cycles — by the classical rules. The same input always produces the same output.
It does not judge your fate. It will not sort charts into good and bad, and it makes no claim about your health, lifespan, or how much money you will have. BaZi is an old language for describing people, not a machine for fixing the future.
Your birth details are used for the calculation and not stored. The form is submitted so that nothing personal ends up in the address bar.
